Can't think of when we've ever found a Black Forest double well tea caddy before this one. Just located recently in France, and if you see a shine on it - it's not varnish, it's just that I've only last night cleaned it up and given it a protective wood wax. Will finish soaking in a a couple of days and be that gorgeous satin-like finish. It is the original, of course. All we do is wood care. So, double wells with perfectly fitted covers still intact. Some of the old well liner (silvered foil) is visible inside. Beautifully crafted, and elevated on those ornate cabriole legs, it has overall carving and also deep bas relief carved fruits and flowers. Measurements are on photos, but it is 10" widest, 6.5" front to back (deepest) and stands 6.75" to the top of the floral cartouche.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I find 3 notable flaws: each of the 2 backside cabriole legs have old repairs to them. I've shown them both in enlargement/detail in our photo spreads for your close evaluation. They're stable, sturdy. Third is that, what I initially took as little brass knobs on the inner compartment lids are actually phillips head screws. They work just great, but you're sure to want to replace them with little knobs. Other than that, it's just really as lovely as can be. Key and working lock, too.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
