Fabulous & rare antique French sterling silver handled 12pc dinner sized 10” table knife set with beautiful guilloche & acanthus accented handles, medallions with “DG” monograms and original “Paris” marked steel blades! Gorgeous and rare, in style, number of pieces and condition with their age considered. Thick, heavy handles, nearly pistol grip in form but with Classical acanthus leaf accenting top & bottom. The handles themselves with a textured feel from the intricate guilloche style machining, all with a large oval medallion and ornate monogram. The tops of the handles bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number “1” within those marks means they’re in .950 silver (95% pure so higher than the .925 standard for “sterling” silver). The silversmith marks are legible on a few and are for Andre Lecugy, Paris circa 1879-1880. The blades are all pre-stainless steel so there are some age related imperfections but not nearly what you’d expect given their age. Perfectly usable as they are and with the elegance one can only find in these stunning old French sterling silver knives! Don’t miss them!
Very good condition. There is some age related darkening, very slight pitting/corrosion marks to the steel blades but, as you can see, they’re really amazing and must have been well cared for over the years to prevent further corrosion, etc. A few faint dimples possible to the handles but no dents, splits, damage or repairs to note. They do come in a box but we’re not certain if that’s original. A label on the inside of the lid reads “Julien De Boubers, Cureghem - Bruxelles”. See pictures for wall weights and measurements.
