Fabulous & RARE antique 18th c. French Napoleon I era sterling silver 3" snuff box with machined decoration and 18k gold overlays in musical instrument themed figural medallions! A museum quality piece here, a bit of use evident on this one but I wouldn't have been surprised had I seen one just like it on display in the Louvre's Napoleonic chambers. The hallmarks are all 18th c. French, the triangular mark is a "herse" or harrow and dates the piece to around 1758. There are silversmith marks that appear to be "LP" but most of my reference guides don't go back as far as the mid 1700s so I have not found it to date. A truly rare and wonderful piece!
Good to very good condition. Just as you see it in the images really, there are some bends and it looks as though it has been straightened by a professional silversmith. Some wear to the gold overlay around the edges of the box but the medallions are really in superb shape. Some wear/loss to the gold or vermeil interior also. See pictures for weight and measurements.
