Fabulous & rare antique French Napoleon III era VION & BAURY 13 7/8" tall mantel clock, highly ornate porcelain case with torches & love birds on top, scrolled acanthus at the sides and original Japy Freres marked clock movement with blue numeral enamel dial! Gorgeous and HEAVY! The case is in thick, heavy porcelain and is as beautifully ornate as can be! Here's a few tidbits I found online about the maker: ...a high quality Parisian maker called Vion & Baury (V & B) located in the Rue de Paradis-Poissonniere and originally founded in 1845 by a ceramic sculptor called Jean Gille. Accounts say Gille died in 1867 and the two men took over the business renaming it Vion & Baury. This mark was used by the Baury and Vion Paris Porcelain Decorating Studio located on the Rue de Paradis-Poissoniere between 1845 and the 1880s. The inside of this clock is stamped with a green anchor and the green anchor was used after the mid 1870's on Vion & Baury pieces. The clock movement is marked by the world renowned "Japy Freres & Cie" French clock makers, recipient of numerals awards at world expositions.
I did also see a similar clock referenced online but I can't remember where, it was equally fine and priced more than twice what we're asking for this one. A beautiful clock, don't miss it!
Very good condition. WITH a nod to the old repaired break in the rear base. Possibly a tiny nip or two but no chips, no cracks and no damage to note other than the break. The clock movement is original and does run but not consistently and likely needs a cleaning, oiling and adjusting. See pictures for all measurements.
