A lovely old pair of Victorian (Napoleon III) era face screens from France, hand painted scenes of serenity, mountains and stream, painted in gouache or water color on paper. The extra long handles are turned wood, painted a creamy color with gold accents in the indentations. Beautiful to hang as art, flanking your mantel mirror or art, or to frame and display in any room.
Very good condition for age and type, with a nod to a repaired crack at top of one of the wooden handles (sturdy, long ago restored with a good wood glue) and also the repair of a split in the painted paper which shows as a white adhered panel visible on backside of one screen. The paintings are adhered to a wire outer frame, as you can see, and show beautifully from front. They are 18.5" long overall, which is larger than most of these by 3-4". They're 10" x 7.25" if you measure the painted screen only. Wire frame is painted gold, and compliments the gold painted trim bands on the wooden handles. A lovely set.
