An exceptional find! Seed pearl studded large pendant with glass on both sides, and a handsome young man's hand painted portrait miniature perfectly preserved within. The pearls are 3mm, average, and are very fine even and pearlescent high quality pearls, all complete and original. Nicely matched to color, as well. The frame seems to be sterling silver with a generous (vermeil) layer of gold, which is typical of jewelry made in France in this era. The young man's portrait is exquisite. From the Empire or "Restauration" (return to Kings of the family Bourbon). He wears a particular cravat pin which type we have one of at this time, sold separately. It is a Palais Royal 18k gold one with enamel flower on it. Look through our shop to find the 200+ year old one we have to sell (sold separately).
Very good to excellent condition, one very short and fine hairline extends from top above his head (marked with xx on our photos for your review). The sterling silver frame is layered in heavy gold (vermeil), and is set with a stunningly well-matched row of pearls. Large bale is also studded with 3 more pearls, and is itself wide enough to use with multiple seed pearl strand necklace, or 3-4mm pearl necklace or gold chain. Would be stunning! Larger than most, please look to our photos to get accurate measurements. The inner frame comes loose from the outer frame of pearls, as you can see in our images. Then it opens to insert paintings both front and back. Back side has no 2nd portrait now. Perhaps never did, or in the fashion of the time, it might have had a plaiting of his hair for his love as a memento or sentimental offering.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
