A superb rare find! This is a large 19th century French chocolate set with large cup, saucer and spoon, all in their original leather presentation box. The silversmith for this elegant 18k gold vermeil on .950/1000 pure silver set is identified as Jules GUETIN, Paris, working from 1880-1882, so that helps us tie down the date it was produced. The guilloche or machine-worked engraving on the pieces is stunningly fine, and the 18k gold finish, which is at least .25 microns thick by law, is in fine condition. It would appear the set has rarely if ever been used or out of its padded, fitted protective case.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. A slight nod to my question if the spoon is original to the set, a slightly different style perhaps to that piece, though it might be just the choice of the owner. All pieces are rich gold and really do not have rubs that expose the fine heavy French sterling silver beneath all that 18k gold. The case is large, well preserved for its age, and the interior in particular is amazing. Silk satin with fittings specifically made for the 3 pieces you see resting within. The cup has no engraved monogram on that open cartouche, nor does the saucer. That means you can still have it engraved with your own monogram if you would like to. A magnificent set! We've shown it clearly and all measurements are noted directly on the photos.
