An exceptionally fine wheel engraved red-cased glass beer stein with pewter fittings and a magnificent stag in forest on the body of the cup, mug, and a hunting hound on the cover glass. This one is spectacular, and a personal favorite. Forest scene that will accent or compliment your Black Forest collections, or stand on any sportsman's desk with honor. These were produced in 1800s and were often Grand Tour souvenirs in the early to mid-1800s. Measurements are noted on our photos.
Very good to good condition. I find no chips on that base edge which is particularly prone to small chips. I do, however, wonder if the handle has been attached after coming loose. A fine line that looks to us like early adhesive or a hot-glass process, one. I'm unsure if that represents the original mounting of the glass handle or if it's a later restoration. We'll price as a restoration. There's a bit of darkening on the pewter handle and we didn't use anything to try to clear that up. Will leave the decision of further polishing up to its next owner. There is one break in the pewter: the upper thumb rest which would have extended from the handle (as you can see in our images). The artistry in wheel-engraving is remarkable in this one, so even with small issues, it's a fabulous one for display. Look it over well.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
