Another of our fabulous antique needlepoint tapestries, this one is the last of my large Scottish Highlands children - the ones in kilts and in mountain highlands setting with dogs. The other one sold as quickly as we listed it. This one won't last either so if you love it, grab it fast.
The extra large frame is 31.5" x 27.5" and is 2" thick. Heavy, with cover glass in place. We might opt to remove the glass for shipment if our customer agrees, for safety and weight.
The needlepoint is fabulous, and is set against a panel of nubby silk for that area up top that is tan - not sure if it was worked on the fabric or if the old needlepoint has been trimmed back and mounted, but it looks perfect this way. You need to get right up to it and think about it to notice it's not the typical old needlepoint canvas, but a nicer fabric, but it bears mention so you won't be surprised by it. The panel's needlework is exquisite. Clean, bright colors and 2 of the most charming boys with that furry little dog - superb in total. Add in the extravagantly beautiful walnut frame, which weighs a ton (old forest growth wood is much heavier) and which is in very fine condition, and this one is to die for! There is a cover glass protecting the old needlepoint, and there are no stains, no odors - just a fine fine piece for your wall. I suspect from the arched top that this might have originally been a very large fire screen in origin. It's on my walls right now and is truly superb - large and an eye-catcher.
These always make me think of Tulsa designer extraordinaire, Charles Faudree, whose books I pour over regularly, and whose sense of decorating arts are in line with my own. Sadly, Mr. Faudree is no longer with us, but if you're not familiar with his sense of style, go buy all of his design books - French Country was never so fun as at his hand. His rooms often show a similar large panel with Highlands kilted boy. Such beautiful interiors he put together! Sigh
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
