These wonderful old items from c.1820-50 boutiques flanking the promenade of the garden of the old Palais Royal of Paris are always a special treat to find and offer. This elegant little gem of an inkwell and desk & pen stand is one such, and the Sevres or Celeste or French blue opaline is always a favorite. The set is a fine quality ormolu framework mounted on a plinth or base of alabaster, and the tray is a half shell of fine old mother of pearl shell. Just a note: the pen we show in our images is not included, but is one we keep as a prop only, adding ambiance and also referential size for our viewers. Selling only the desk stand with inkwell and mother of pearl tray.
Very good to excellent condition througout, with the original lid still attached to its chain and therefore not so prone to loss as were most of these. Rare to find one that remains complete, undamaged. The blue opaline is of fine quality and has no chips nor cracks, no loss at all. The same for the mother of pearl shell, which has no chips nor cracks, and retains its high pearlescent shimmer. The addition of the blue opaline beads in centers of flowers is something we see in the early half of 1800s and not usually later than 1830. Measurements are noted directly on our photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
