A Grand Tour souvenir goblet in the typical form and size of a European 19th century and earlier wine timbale or goblet, and a fabulous wheel engraved depiction of one of Germany's most wonderful architectural views, Rheinstein Castle. Wheel-engraved designs and fluted rim and a deep blood red overlay on clear to reveal the beautifully crafted and fine detailed architectural rendering to include foliage on the hill, a boat in the river, and flag on top of the castle. What a wonderful souvenir this would have been, and can be for you as you remember your own Grand Tour.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The rim is wheel cut to a fluted edge and has no chips or cracks, no hairlines. A few light abrasions perhaps to show the true age of this fine old one, primarily visible on bottom. This one has been a display item and not used, from the look of it. Measures 4" tall and upper rim in 2.5" in diameter. Typical size for a wine timbale in 19th century Europe.
