A wonderful little French kiln-fired enamel putti or Cupid with a musical theme against that deep claret red ground that always seems to photograph darker than it is, so keep that in mind as you view. This is that candy-apple red everyone used to love on fast old cars. Anyway, we know these putti enamels are French but I'm not positive about which firm did them. Some say Sevres, some say Limoges. Both cities/burbs had ateliers of enamelists working on metal as you see done here. That said, We can tell you that this one was marketed through Thiebaut Freres boutique at 32, Ave de l'Opera, and those of you who know Paris well know that the address would have been excellent in the 1800s when this one was initially sold. Petit copper vase is enameled throughout, as you see. Just waits for a chance to hold a few little pink French roses on your bedside table, breakfast tray, side table. Fabulous little treasure!
Very good to excellent condition throughout, I see no chips or cracks or hairlines to disclose. The piece is entirely hand made, hand decorated in kiln-fired enamels, the process of which I have written about time and again. Marketed initially through a well-known high end boutique along the Avenue de l'Opera in Paris, this one retains the original printed stamp on bottom (rare). The piece is 4 1/8" tall and has a 2 3/4" body diameter.
