Antique German .800 (almost sterling) Silver 9.5" Asparagus or Serving Tongs
Fabulous antique Victorian era German hallmarked .800 (nearly sterling) silver 9 3/8" asparagus, pastry or sandwich tongs with elegant Classical styling including acanthus accents & reticulated or pierced decoration! Not French sterling silver but obviously made in the style you would expect to come from France. Acanthus leaf accents morphing from the center columnar stems, a center collar is also silver. One flat grasping panel, the other shaped to accommodate the stalks of asparagus. German hallmarks, the "800" means they're in at least .800, or 80% pure, silver. I haven't been able to reference the silversmith marks but it/they are there and legible. Thick, heavily crafted silver with all of the elegance you could hope for!
Very good condition. No damage to note, some slight surface scuffs indicative of light use but we've recently wheel polished it so there's a lustrous shine. See pictures for measurements.
