Fine antique French sterling silver Belle Epoque era 8pc dessert or entremet sized knife set, hallmarked silver blades with elegant walnut & silver handles! One of several sets of antique French knives that we're adding this week so, be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks! This a lovely setting for eight, seashell style sterling silver caps on solid walnut, possibly rosewood, handles and all eight pieces in wonderful condition. The blades all bear the French Mercure or Mercury hallmark which means they were made for export from France. The tiny number "1" within those marks designate them as being in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). Silversmith marks are fur Andre Aucoc, Paris circa 1887-1911. A lovely set, enjoy!
Good-very good condition. No bends, damage or repairs to any of the silver blades, just a tiny nip to a tip or two. There are a few age or drying splits in the solid walnut handles but no breaks or damage. See pictures for weights and measurements.
