Gorgeous antique Georgian or Louis XVIII era perfume or sewing etui with ornate incised mother of pearl panels and remarkable condition! Yes, this was surely originally an etui that would have held a fine old cut crystal scent or perfume bottle, possible fitted to hold small sewing implements but is now empty and without the original fittings. Nicely sized, it measures 3 3/4" in height and all of the octagonal sides, lid and base, are in solid genuine mother of pearl. All sides intricately engraved with an array of floral and geometric patterns, similar to those lovely old mother of pearl gaming chips that we seldom find. A wonderful piece, how you use it is entirely up to you and, of course, these great antique boxes and etuis always make fabulous decorative accents. Don't miss it.
Good-very good condition. As noted, the interior is missing any original fittings. The back mother of pearl panel, under then hinge, has a crack in it but there are no other chips or cracks to the mother of pearl panels that I can see. The collar and base may be in silver but I don't see any hallmarks, nor have I tested it so we're pricing the piece as if it's not sterling silver. See pictures for measurements.
