Fabulous & rare 19th century (1850s) French hand carved Black Forest style telescoping desk or table top book rack, hand painted polychrome side panels with mythological griffin or gryphon figures, ribbons and fleur-de-lis crests! Okay, each side has basically the same decoration but each has been hand carved and is, therefore, a unique work. Subtle differences in the carving and the shields or emblems vary, the first with a gilded fleur de lis and the other with a stylized Medici style to it. Perfect if you're a Black Forest or medieval/renaissance collector, or just plain looking for a superb display for a treasured collection of antique books! Don't miss it!
Very good condition! There is a subtle lengthwise warp in the base side panels, making it a hair off of level but it would work just fine. No breaks or repairs other than what looks like a re-attaching of one of the sides (at the hinged base and has the nail heads visible on the other side). See pictures for all measurements.
