Delightful & rare antique Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved 5" smoker's stand, a charming little hooded gnome with tobacco pipe clenched in his teeth, match holding basket on his back, striker base and "Fontainebleau" souvenir inscription! His right hand also clutching the handle of a woven basket, surely for spent matches and this piece is as whimsical & wonderful as can be! The gnome figure one of the less common of the Black Forest repertoire and the carving here has fabulous detail right down to his bushy beard, teeth and jovial facial expression. Great for matchsticks on the fireplace mantel or in the kitchen, don't miss this charming little guy!
Very good to excellent condition. The "Fontainebleau" inscription and match striker panel are a bit worn but still legible/usable. I see no age splits, no chips and no repairs to note. See pictures for all measurements.
