Antique French souvenir of the old c. 1500s Gothic "Saint-Jaques Tower", Paris, (just at the Chatelet metro area) a large bonbon box, casket, with ormolu framework and set into a pressed glass form that has an English maker registration mark (bottom - see images). These old Grand Tour souvenirs are SO appealing! I have always been drawn to them, and you see this one with some of my others on display at my home today (many in the miniature armoire). It's been interesting to collect a varied representation of the buildings and monuments I've always enjoyed in person, on my own Grand Tours (frequent buying trips, really).
Note from the photo with text on it about the condition: Photo right taken from bottom, shows what I thought might be flash hairlines, but they really look more like glass flaws in close inspection. Also noted, an English press mard, registration (see image above right). Pressed glass is English, the souvenir eglomise is French, a monument in Paris: "Saint-Jaques Tower" at Chatelet. The painting is done on back side of a panel of glass, and remains in very nice condition. The ormolu casing, made in France, is still fully intact, and clasp and hinged back work perfectly.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
