While it's got a bit of a look of some of the old Black Forest carved bracket shelves, the origin of this one isn't confirmable as Black Forest and I think it might be a French carved shelf. The slightly religious-feeling putti might be part of it, and you'll decide what you think. It's definitely a 19th century shelf, nicely preserved and a lovely size to incorporate into any home. Top it with a decorative big transfer ware platter perhaps in a kitchen or dining room. Use it in a guest bath as the stack for your rolled guest towels, hand towels. Deep enough to use as a small clock bracket shelf, but note the size of the upper shelf (10.5" x 5.5 at deepest). The overall height is 11". Solid wood, entirely hand carved.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. And while the old wood, richly grained and gorgeous, shows some age and use, I find no chips or cracks or breaks, no restorations to disclose. The 2 original old hardware hooks remain in place, ready to hang.
