Gorgeous antique French hallmarked sterling silver & cut glass 10 3/4" claret jug, beautifully ornate with rococo style base & scrolling handle, floral accented collar and that stunning spiral fluted body with wheel cut intaglio etched or engraved decoration! Sure seems like it's been a while since we had a great old French sterling silver claret jug so, here you go and we're listing two truly fabulous ones this week! Rocaille encircling the silver base, the handle in the form of sinuous scrolls! The body is thick glass with a wheel cut spiral extending from the bottom of the neck and flowing into a beautiful intaglio etched pattern. All of the separate silver parts bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they are in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Edouard Ernie, Paris circa 1882. A gorgeous piece in superb condition, don't miss it! Also be sure to take a look at the other gorgeous claret jug we're listing this week, in addition to a host of fine antique French sterling silver coffee, chocolate & tea pots. Thanks!
Very good-excellent condition. Some signs of tarnish visible in the images, sorry :), and possibly the tiniest of dimples but no large dents, no damage or repairs to note. There is one small dented area on the rim of the base but it stands straight. No chips that I can see to the glass and there are no cracks. See pictures for all measurements.
