What a beautiful small chest or buffet this one is. Just in from France and while it's fitted as a top-opening chest or box, it's made just like a charming old French oak buffet of full size. The detail is remarkably fine. If this is an apprentice's model/made item, it's a very fine one. I think it as likely to be a doll furniture item. Dates late 1800s to as late as perhaps 1920. The oak is rich dark oak with fine grain. The miniature hardware is very nicely crafted. Take a close look - hand carved legs and trim. Very nice, indeed.
Very good to excellent, I see no flaws to report other than the interior felted liner is quite old and faded (intact, not torn or stained). There are no odors, either, except the lovely smell of freshly waxed wood. I couldn't help but think of my own Madame Alexandre Cissy dolls when I saw this one. it's really about the perfect size for those dolls or slightly larger ones. If you're a doll collector, this is definitely for your 'girls'.
