One of the prettiest sets we've had in ages, the set you see here is an early 1900s hand painted set in 'salad/dessert' sized plates, (9.3/8" diameters) richly rimmed in gold and accented in gold against that lapis to cobalt blue border, all of which is a stunning frame for the hand painted country pastorale scenes that center each plate. The plates are not for use at dinner, apart from perhaps just having them as place plate dress-up for the first view your guests have of your table when they enter and are seated. The hand painted beauty will transport them in time and ambiance, but lift these and replace with a salad plate more designed for the tines of a fork, please! Or use them as cabinet plates in the hutch, hang them on the walls as art, which they most certainly are elevated enough to be. I love the look of these plates cresting a valance over a long dining room window - you know the look I mean, right? Great color! Great ambiance! And a fine collector's set that has nowhere to go in price but up, up, up!
Very good to excellent condition. I see nothing to detract from your enjoyment or the value of this superb antique set. Full set of 12, no chips, cracks, hairlines, evidence of use or abuse to the surface. There are 3 scenes depicted in repetition on 4 plates each, though they are hand painted and vary slightly one to the next. Superb set!
