Antique calling card (CDV carte d'visite) tray or dessert stand with eglomise souvenir panel depicting the the world famed St. Paul's cathedral in London and AMAZING reticulated classical or mythological figures! Grand Tour souvenirs, all, we're always struggling to stay in stock with these wonderful old French jewelry and trinket caskets, trays, and particularly the ones with back-painted scenes of architectural highlights of various European Grand Tour tourist areas in France or England. They're most all made in France, as this one possibly England, and date near the end of the 1800s to earliest 1900s. Souvenirs for our earliest travelers, some survive with the miniature paintings intact, and some have been taken to clear glass. This one survives with its painting as pristinely in place as we rarely find them - hardly any flaking or lost paint. We've got several superb old eglomise pieces in from France and can fill in your collection, and I'll be listing from my own collection, too. GREAT to display your favorite antique jewelry or micromosaic or ivory brooches, or other small treasures, or to use as a dessert stand at your next dinner party - maybe in advance of your trip to England. Fabulous items for vitrine, or tilted for display in your bookshelves (that's where I have mine like this).grouped on a tabletop, accenting a grouping of antique frames - you name it.
Very good condition! This one has no chips at all on that wonderful back-painted glass panel centered in the tray. There is a tiny split in the top of one foot, not bad at all considering this is over 100 years old and glass. Wonderful architectural study on this one, and great style and shape with nice large size, too. A very nice box, indeed!
