Delightful antique French Gien marked 3pc 7 7/8" cabinet plate set, "Histoire de Jeanne D'Arc" souvenir pieces with ornate blue & white borders and unique figural center scenes of moments in the life of Joan of Arc with titles or inscriptions! Part of a more extensive numbered series, this set is numbered 2, 11 & 12 and are entitled "Jeanne D'Arc En Extase Devant St Michel - Ste Catherine Et Ste Marguerite", "Jeanne D'Arc Prisonniere Des Anglais" and "Mort De Jeanne D'Arc Brûlée Vive A Rouen 1431" or, roughly translated, "Joan of Arc in Ecstasy Before St Michel - Ste Catherine and Ste Marguerite", "Joan of Arc Prisoner of the English" and "Death of Joan of Arc Burned alive in Rouen 1431". All three plates have blue under glaze maker marks on the back, along with die stamped marks, that read "Geoffroy et Cie, Medaille a'Exposition Universelle 1855". This is a set of three, we'll be listing other small incomplete sets of similar souvenir cabinet plates this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. They're fabulous grouped and displayed, whether in a curio cabinet, hutch or even simply wall hung. Wonderful!
Very good condition, age considered. There are a few small nips to the rims, a bit larger rim chip on one plate. No larger chips, no cracks or other damage to note. Each has an 7 7/8" diameter.
