Fabulous antique French Napoleon III era 8.25” tall humidor style cigar presenter, carousel style with four rotating doors in ebony or ebonized veneers with gilt ormolu accenting, cigar fittings and delightful dog figural top! Not actually a humidor as it lacks any soaker fixture, this type of box actually just meant to temporarily house cigars for visitors, etc. Mechanical in nature though the actual mechanism isn’t working at the moment, there is a knob in the front of the lid that rotates the main door which is supposed to, in turn, rotate the other doors open via a thin notched wheel in the bottom but it’s not currently catching the other doors. One can easy rotate them open but it needs a little attention and possibly a bit of restoration to actually get back to its working state. A wonderful smaller piece and overflowing with visual & decorative appeal with that pressed dog lounging on top! Don’t miss it.
Good condition. As noted, the doors are not rotating as they should but there is nothing missing from the mechanism. The rotating plate in the bottom with notches is just so thin that it isn’t engaging the doors as it should. A few small veneer cracks on the lid (visible in images) and someone in the past has painted over the bead festooning around the base, it’s black now but pressed brass or ormolu under with some spots visible. All inner fittings intact with no breaks, exterior with an ebony finish and the interior in rosewood veneers. See pictures for all measurements.
