Lovely antique French Napoleon III era gilt bronze ormolu & vivid blue guilloche enamel 3 7/8" jewelry casket, a beautiful little treasure box with ornate side decoration and hand painted portrait miniature, likely of Madame Elisabeth of France! These beautiful old French jewelry caskets make such wonderful decorative accents, especially with the portrait miniatures, kind of a blending of two loves: boxes and portraits :). Electric blue guilloche enamel panels in the lid frame the portrait, the mat of the frame so to say. The miniature itself is unsigned as far as I can see but original, behind the original drop beveled glass and likely of Madame Elisabeth of France. Élisabeth of France (Élisabeth Philippine Marie Hélène de France (1764–1794), known as Madame Élisabeth, was a French princess and the youngest sibling of King Louis XVI. During the French Revolution, she remained beside the king and his family and was executed at Place de la Révolution in Paris during the Terror. A fabulous little piece, don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition. I see no flaws to any of the enamel panels or the portrait, though there may be a faint spot of moisture marking to the left side (of portrait panel). The box also in great shape, no dents, damage or repairs. Also unique is that it has a tiny lock but, unfortunately is missing the key. The interior has been relined. See pictures for measurements.
