A splendid service or collection piece, fine French 19th century thread glass in large heavy bulbous form and topped with a neo-Renaissance decorative white metal pour spout and hinged lid, handle that set it off perfectly. The beauty of the threaded blown glass is enhanced by the perfection of it even after all these years. We'd date to c.1880s, give or take 10 years.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Not even a chip on that lower plinth base. No chips nor cracks in the neck so nicely shrouded in its cap. It's large enough for a generous serving piece for a couple, I think, given wine at dinner. Would be so gorgeous with blue/white table setting (which is my casual favorite). Very tempted to keep this one. It is larger than the typical French liqueur pitcher, carafon, and is a full French carafe, instead. Full measurements noted on the photos. The white metal would have been silver plated, I think. We didn't do much at all to bring it up in polish. We only did a light wipe to bring out the raised shine so you can see how stunning is the workmanship on that fitting.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
