A wonderful still life with appeal to the subject and also to the impressionist manner of the work. The artist has signed and dated it (c.1880) and the painting is not only nicely preserved, but also nicely framed and ready to hang. The tromp l'oeil treatment of the key hanging on the wall brings an added interest and balances nicely the other objects of beakers and leather bound books. Calming palette, as well. Very nice.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. I see no holes, no damage to the painting. In oil paint on wooden panel, there are no slits or canvas tears to present the usual problems of the old paintings. The frame is original to the painting and houses it well. Ready to hand and enjoy. Measurements noted on photos.
