An interesting old adaptation has made this carved corbel or bracket shelf into one meant to be used in a corner. You can see in our photos the way it's been extended and that the angles on the back portion create a corner-mount. It would be perfect left as it is, used in a bathroom where space is tight, but where you need a perfect spot to support some folded or rolled towels, or a nice larger candle. There's certainly also the option of removing that back part and returning it to a flat-wall mounted bracket shelf. We'll leave it this way and the next owner can decide. The measurements are noted on the photos but it's nearly 12" in height. The figural bottom makes it a really nice one to hang a bit higher, hence my idea of using it in a corner of a bathroom. You'll want that face to show. Just in from France. It's wonderful!
Very good condition for age and type. It has been adapted, as mentioned. You can either leave it as it is and use for a corner, or remove that back addition and turn it back to the old original flat-wall mounting (I suspect it's been glued, so might need to have someone remove it with a saw). I don't see any chips anywhere nor breaks or splits, cracks on the old carving. It's really a pretty old thing!
