Creil-Montereau faience , post 1797 (mark looks like it says "Lebeuf Milliet" (In 1840 the Creil factory merged with the one of Montereau (Seine et Marne). The company becomes "Creil and Montereau Faïenceries" under the name Lebeuf, Milliet & Co. (LM & Co.), until 1876.)
Set of 6 c. 1840-1876 story plates, French Romance subject, black on white - 8.25" diameters, 1" rise/depth
A charming set to use or display. I love the idea of these shown on top of a valance shelf over a window in kitchen, (which is what I've done in one of our kitchens with old English flow blue plates and platters). The shelf is simple oak and has carved supports - you know the look, right? But I digress. . . these are very nice old ones. Six in all for this offering, and I find no cracks nor chips to report, though they are aged and show some age throughout.
Very good to excellent for age and type. Transferware of highest appeal, the old french story plates are always fun for use or to display on wall or in cabinet. Love the black on white/ivorie colors. And the subject makes these all the more fun - late 1700s Romance era images, no 2 alike. Marks are shown, and this mark is used between 1840-1876.
