Isn't it lovely! And a perfect place to store your favorite jewelry, perhaps a watch (that's my photographer's Apple watch inside for scale) or a bracelet perhaps, along with fittings for watch or neck chain, a couple of rings, brook and earrings, or perhaps tie pin and cufflinks would also fit just as well. For either a man or woman, I think. A wonderful gift idea or presentation box that would have initially been marketed from a firm in Limoges, France. I have and use a similar box (2 of them, actually) for some of my favorite jewelry items, and just love the look and feel of these old beauties. I think that is rosewood, though I am not positive of it. You might know the grain better than I do. No monogram on the silver metal cartouche so you can have your own engraved if you choose.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The interior is particularly fine, the old velvet in superb condition as well as the silk. The wooden box is also in very fine condition without chips or cracks, and only a very very little bit of surface imperfection to show of its age. See our photos for full view and measurements. Box is 7.75" x 6.75" and is nearly 3" deep. No key at listing, but it appears to be a working lock if you wanted to try to match up a key later on, or have one made. These old locks are quite simple, rather easy to fit a key to.
