A wonderful early 1800s hand painted portrait in miniature, painted in gouache on card and in the original metal frame, still perfectly protected under the original cover glass. The woman appears to be perhaps a servant, or certainly in casual but lovely garb and in her lace cap. The frame is a nice old French dore bronze one with silk velvet mat, some of the nap remains. No signature on this one.
Very good condition for age and type. The painting has no chips, no loss to the portrait, and is still nicely framed in original frame and glass. Outer frame measures 5 1/4" x 4" and 3/8" thick, and the oval aperture is just 1 7/8" x 1 3/8" - it would be a wonderful painting for a doll's house display, too.
