A wonderful early 1800s hand painted portrait in miniature, painted in monochromatic gouache on card and in the original simple metal frame, still perfectly protected under the original cover glass. The woman appears to be a Royal, or titled and beautiful creature. I suspect this is a painting after a large portrait (done in miniature as a copy for Grand Tour tourist trade in early to mid-1800s Paris). There is writing on back identifying, so perhaps it is of the tourist, herself. I can only make out Mme. Eleanora, though perhaps above it is might say Lady Grantham? In fact, it might be and English woman. As noted, portrait in grisaille, or to say, in a monochromatic manner. Elegant jewelry shown, as well as gown.
Very good condition for age and type. The painting has no chips, no loss to the portrait, and is still nicely framed in original frame and glass. Large at 5" x 4" and 3/8" thick, it would be a wonderful painting for a doll's house display, too.
