Elegant & rare antique French hallmarked .800 (nearly sterling) silver cigarette or cheroot case, ornate Art Nouveau style leaves, vines and berries with "P" monogram medallion & vermeil lined interior! Much more common are the cigarette cases from England or the US, we don't really see all that many French made pieces but here's one and what a beauty! The surface of the box has a textured or hammered look to it, small dots pressed into it throughout. The leaves & vines extend up the left or hinged side and cover that corner, a beautiful panoply of winding vines, leaves and berries. The piece bears the French boar's head hallmark, used on smaller pieces of at least .800 or 80% silver content. The silversmith mark is also quite tiny but the mark on the clasp is fully legible and for Charles Murat, Paris circa 1897.
Very good condition. The inside is missing the ribbons that would have held the contents but those are easily replaced. A very slight dimple or two possible but no large dents, damage or repairs. See pictures for weight and measurements.
