A charming petit "gem" frame set with cut garnets, either a Bohemian creation or French. Just in from France and rare as can be to find anymore. We love these tiny gems. They were made circa 1850-60s when the tiny early tintypes started being produced in Europe. Gem albums show the tiny images, too, but these old frames are so rare. The aperture is less than 1" tall, and the old cover glass remains in place, ready for your own tiny gem image or photo. More of a jewelry-like item, isn't it. Makes a cluster of frames ever so much more fun and interesting. Measurements in full are noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent. The gems set with prongs (of course!) are lovely old garnets, deep claret red though they aren't showing it in our front-lighted photos. I wish our photographer had put a light behind to show you. Gathers and pushes a deep blood red light though each stone, so pretty. Almost like rubies. Each would have been hand cut semi-precious gems, remember. And the old French twisted ormolu/brass alloy frame holding them is in excellent condition, as well. Still with original back easel stand. You can bend it a little for more upright stand should you wish to. These displayed less upright than others in their time, however.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
