Absolutely gorgeous antique French Belle Epoque era sterling silver 4pc open salt set with matching spoons, all with ornate Louis XVI or rococo styling, original shaped & cut clear glass inserts and all nestled in the original fitted storage and/or presentation box with gilt embossed crown topped monogram! Aren't these wonderful! A set of four, perfect to be spaced over your opulently appointed dining table or as personal salts at each sitter's plate side. Louis XVI or rococo styling with scrolled tendrils & floral accenting and all four have the original shaped and wheel cut clear glass inserts. All pieces bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks, tiny as they are, are legible and the ones on the salts are for Joseph Crossard circa 1900-1920, those on the spoons are for Maillard Freres & Vazou, Paris circa 1897-1903 (so this set would have to fall between 1900-1903). A lovely set, don't miss them!
Very good condition. Some tarnish visible in the recesses of the ornate decoration but all have been recently polished to a high shine. One of the salts has, unfortunately, had the small feet or legs broken off but it still stands steady. No other dents, damage or repairs to note. Possibly a tiny nip or two to the glass inserts but no cracks or other damage. The box is in fine shape, age considered, with a drying crack running across the top. See pictures for weight and measurements.
