Charming as can be, this hand carved Black Forest (Swiss) dog in tail coat with backpack is 19th century, and was carved as a cigar or cheroot server. The backpack would have held matches. Dogs are the rarest of all. And even though this one has an old restored break we've left very visible for photos, but now is much improved with a little stain along that light line at his ankles. We wanted you to be able to see it's there, evaluate it. It hardly shows at all now that it's not lighter, and it's solid and well-done, but it is a flaw and is considered in our price. Normally dogs are priced much higher, owing to rarity.
Very good condition for age and type, a nod to the aforementioned old restored break at his ankles. We've photographed it at its most visible and have since touched it up so you really can't much see it at all and can just enjoy using it. We use these sometimes through Holidays as candy cane holders. You needn't be a cigar smoker to love and use these fun old carved cigar stands. Measurements noted on the photos, but he is 7" tall.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
