Fabulous antique French Napoleon III era hand painted portrait miniature on card, ID'd Mme Recamier in solid wood & bronze frame with original convex glass! I've searched online galleries to find the original as most of these miniatures were painted after master works by notable artists but I haven't found any similar paintings. In an alluring pose with her left hand & fingers resting against the side of her head. Anyone who has any experience in painting or drawing the human body will know that the hands are one of the more difficult parts to accurately portray and this one is just lovely. Also notable is that she is wearing a jeweled tiara like jewelry piece and the dress is quite revealing. The back of the ebonized wood frame has a print covering, written in script at the bottom is "Mme Recamier" so we're assuming that's the sitter. However, since I found no similar painting online, it could be that the ID isn't accurate. Possibly Pauline Bonaparte, who married Prince Camillo Borghese. She was known as the most beautiful woman in the world. And this painting might be after the Canova sculpture of her that can be seen at the Borghese in Rome. A lovely portrait no matter!
Very good condition. The ebony finish on the wooden frame has some fading but we'd be happy to go over it with ebony stain before shipping if you'd like. No notable damage or flaws otherwise, see pictures for all measurements.
