From among the trinkets and baubles of the old boutiques that flank the promenade of the famed Palais Royal, Paris, comes another sweet little pearl shell "vide poche". The traditional bedside repository for pocket watch and jewelry or coins, quite literally "empty pocket" in translation. This one is a superb example and is so nicely preserved. The stand for ones pocket watch is backed by a round of pearl shell, too, which I have to say I wonder is a later addition since most of these had a velveted pad there. It's perfect, though. Lovely addition if it is. The upward reaching leaves of pearl and the curl arms to hold ones pen or perhaps rings - these are all in fine form. Pocket watch shown is not included, of course.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. The frame is perfect and the old half shell that comprises the tray or dish is also. Very nigh pearlescent shimmer that ranges mostly between green and pink (most desired), and really not a chip nor flaw to note for you. Lovely old one! Measurements noted on the photos, but I'll say that it is nearly 6" tall as you see it and nearly 3" widest. We can never keep these in stock, and particularly one as nice as this.
