A fabulous example of mid-1800s Grand Tour souvenirs, a gorgeous casket, box, caddy for the three original scent bottles that still remain inside. This is the type available in the boutiques of the famed Palais Royal, and certainly a grand treasure that's been well treasured for more than 150 years to survive in such fine exterior and interior condition though the gold enamel accented bottles inside have seen better days. Beautiful kingwood veneers with an ornate inlaid field in the lid with brass crosses or stars and brass or bronze corner edging lid and base. A beautiful casket, one usually finds a little bit of damage or loss on these extensively inlaid pieces, a corner or something lifted, but this one is very solid and only with a few small age imperfections. A wonderful Napoleon III era box and set of scent bottles any way you look at it!
Good to very good Condition. The bottles, unfortunately have quite a few chips, visible in the images, and one has a hairline crack visible in the base/bottom. The box itself is in wonderful condition with just a few of the brass 'stars' missing from the lid inlay and a small section of the kingwood veneer replaced in the lower left front canted corner. Original interior lining and working lock & key! See pictures for measurements.
