A wonderful mid-1800s hinged double or "locket" frame made to house the earliest card photos, carte de visite size. That helps us date the frame, since the carte de visite photos were popular between c.1851-1870 when they were mostly overtaken by the larger cabinet card sized professional photos. This one is fabulous! Solid and heavy, it's hinged to close and keep intimate the photos one might store within, or to open to view as you wish. Beautiful even from the backside, it's one frame you'll feel comfortable using on a tabletop or desk where even the backside view might be open. Fine engraved work on front panel, entirely hand engraved with burin and skill. And with an easel stand or the old hanging loop, you've got options in how to display it.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The dore bronze metal has its high brilliant finish without polish, and the engraved work is lovely. Some surface abrasions consistent with age, and nothing to really distract. Easel stand and hanging loop both remain on back, and the old original cover glass still is undamaged and set within. Ready to add photos and display.
Combine in a grouping with some of our other frames in inventory to get an exceptionally elegant mantel of family photos, each sold separately. These are the frames I use at home. Truly family heirlooms in their own right.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
