RARE c1889 Antique Russian Sterling Silver Niello Cigar Cheroot Case, Kremlin, "84" Marks, Anatoly Apollonovich Artsybashev
Superb Engraved and Niello cigar or cheroot case with engraved view of the Kremlin, Moscow Hallmarked: 84 zolotnik (.825/1000 pure silver); St.George for Moscow, assay master Anatoly Apollonovich Artsybashev 1889, Makers mark hard to read, likely AK for Antip Kuzmichev Moscow 1856-1897 (10,5 x 7,3 x 2,7 cm), weight is 144 g
From the reign of Russian Tsar, Nicholas II (Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov) of Russia in 1889 of Russia, comes this fine work of silver, with both intricate arabesque of niello work in the silver and also hand engraved depiction of the Kremlin, Moscow - magnificent example. I find a similar offering at $2500 right now on ebay (at listing time) and we're thrilled to offer ours, which I think is even finer, though slightly newer, at less than half that. The case is in fine form, with only a couple of tiny push dings on corners (view our images to see what I refer to).
Very good to excellent for age and type. This one belongs to my 14-year old grandson, Gavin, who has been in business with us since he turned 10. Otherwise, I'd probably keep it for my own souvenir of my 5 weeks + in Moscow. A thrilling old city, rich with history, and opulent architecture. The onion domes of St. Basil's church can also be seen in this engraved vignette of Moscow's Red Square from the Kremlin side. There are no serious issues, but a couple of small ding-dents at corner, visible in our many photos for your review. The interior has an 18k gold vermeil layer that remains brilliantly gold. The old elastic strips that would have been on each side to hold cigars and cheroots in place have been lost to time, but they are easily replaced if you wish to use this case for cigars or for your business cards. A gorgeous old one. We have a larger case available, too - be sure to look for that one (sold separately).
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
