This is a traditional late 1700s style sealing wax etui, but made in early to mid-1800s. The French Minerve mark is the guarantee used from 1838 forward, certifying the finest quality or standard of silver produced: .950/1000 pure silver. The style of this sealing wax case, etui, is French Empire, garlands of olive leaves and gadroon border. The monogram deeply engraved on the matrix end of the seal is R L, as you can see in one image where I've reversed it to show how it will look when imprinted into sealing wax. A beautiful old thing,
Very good condition for age and type. There are slight imperfections commensurate with age and use. Slight abrasions to surface, as you can see. The item is a full 5" long, engraved R L monogram is deeply incised on one end. The other end is not engraved. Sealing wax would have been stored within the case.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
