What a charming little bonbon box or patch box, this one a kiln-fired enamel treasure from Bilston, we're certain, and a most charming one it is. At first I thought that was a skunk up top, but it's obviously a black and white dog. Floral bottom, and all in very nice condition. There is, we think, a restoration that might show under black light, but you'll be hard pressed to find where that little crack was. I've just noted that there's a very similar one with a pug listed on another site right now with a tag price of $2815.00, and one with a lion that is $4995.00. We don't think these are quite that dear, but they are fabulous. Circa 1790s, anyone who collects these fine old ones will surely love our box AND our price.
Very good condition for age and type. We know there is a small area that has had restoration by a professional enamelist. We've shown it from all angles and sides so you can see if you can tell where it is. A former small flaw, as most of these have had some damage if they've survived over 200 years as ours has. The kiln-fired enamel is a bit like a porcelain layer on the copper box form, and subject to damage. Very little evidence of any on this one and very little surface abrasion on that floral bottom side, either. A very fine old box. Priced to sell.
