Elegant & rare antique French ODIOT sterling silver travel or confirmation gift flatware set, a complete 8pc place setting for one in the original Odiot marked storage and/or presentation box and all & wonderful condition with large, ornate interlaced "L.R.G." monograms! An opulent gift for sure, the set includes eight pieces and is a place setting for one. I've not heard of "BYOF" (bring your own flatware) but, I guess if you're not wanting to be invited again, this would be ideal :). On a more serious note though, the set is simply gorgeous. Subtle yet elegant with no overly intricate pattern, simply beveled tops to the handles and the beautiful monograms on the back. All bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). Silversmith marks on the pieces are from both Odiot & Eugene Queille (a notable Parisian silversmith to whom Odiot 'outsourced' as they say). The knives, blades & handles, are marked by Odiot, the forks & spoons by Queille (Paris circa 1847-1895). Odiot, as we know, is a world renowned silversmith, maker to royalty and known for the finest of the fine (see our final image for more information on the long, lauded history of the House of Odiot). A wonderful set here, don't miss them!
Very good condition. Some faint surface scuffs to the pieces, no major flaws, dents, damage or repairs. The knives all have filled or weighted sterling silver handles, of the three there is one with a sterling blade, one with what looks like a silver plated blade and one with steel blade (all are original & marked by Odiot). There is a bit of age tarnish and/or corrosion visible on the steel blade, a few small spots also on the plated blade. The box is in great shape, with a tooled maroon leatherette cover on wood with opulent fitted interior. The right side of the lid has a bit of 'wrinkling' to the maroon covering, likely a split or separation to the wood underneath due to age drying/shrinkage. The lid bears the matching monogram and the inside of the lid has a gold Odiot stamp. See pictures for all weights and measurements.
