Antique Victorian or Napoleon III era gutta percha 5 1/8" carte d'visite or CDV sized picture frame, wonderfully detailed French styling and fine condition! Gutta percha or gutta-percha refers to the forerunner of today's plastic, a very dense & heavy substance derived from Malaysian trees that resembles rubber but contains more resin. Invented in the 19th c. and used for these gorgeous old inkstands, picture frames & more but most notably in the telecommunications industry :)! Some signs of its age but a great one and very affordably priced! One of two that we're listing today so be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Good condition! There are two hairline cracks in the bottom, evidence of repaired splits there. The complete tole painted metal back & easel stand are intact, as is the convex glass See pictures for measurements.
