Fabulous & Rare 19th Century Victorian Needlepoint Tapestry with Exquisite Colors, Figural Motif & Original Basket Weave Pattern Gilt Gesso on Wood Frame! Just marvelous, both the needlepoint and frame and they appear to be original to each other and are each a distinct work of art! Circa mid-late 1800s, the scene is of a woman seated on what appears to be a blanket or rug, palm tree & small house in the background and an exotic bird/parrot in the tree overhead. There appears to be a crown or halo over the woman's head though I'm unsure if this is after a notable work of art or who the sitter might be. The frame has a superb cross-hatch or basket weave gilt gesso, surrounded by a carved/gadrooned bordering and intricate as can be! An exquisite wall hanging all the way around.
Very Good Condition! There is no damage to the needlepoint, a missing stitch or two here & there but that's to be expected. No damage to the carved wood frame, solid wood backing! See pictures for measurements.
