A wonderful desktop or purse item, this is a hand crafted and elegant mid-Victorian era "Souvenir" notebook, someone's souvenir of their Grand Tour most certainly or a gift brought back. The linen insert is hand embroiled in very tiny needlepoint or petitpoint stitch and is in pristine condition. The leather outer cover is also as if it hasn't ever been out of a treasure drawer. Nice sized and begs to be used or displayed. Gold embossed rich brown leather doesn't even have corner tears. And apart from the original notation dating its acquisition or gift date, none of the pages have been written upon. Just exceptional, really.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The plaque that is engraved "Souvenir" shows a tiny bit of corrosion, and the little leather tab that would once have been in that slit (used to lift the insert leather tab up and out) has been pulled out over the centuries. But the pages aren't stained, damaged, nor foxed, really. Including the green outer ones. Spine and folds are very nice and the book is firmly in place at inner spine. It is 5" x 3.5", and is .5" in depth.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
