Delightful antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era hand painted miniature painting on card, a countryside scene with horses, cart and what appears to be soldiers, a rare scene and displayed in a gilt bronze medallion style frame! One of a few 'smalls' that we found in Paris last week, this one we just had to have because of the scene depicted. A true miniature :), the frame here has a 3.25" diameter but the painting is wonderfully detailed and shows a host of figures. After looking at the enlarged scan of the image, I'm pretty sure that's a cannon being pulled by the six horses and would likely be an image from the Napoleonic wars perhaps? The frame, sans true backing, easel, etc. is the type we might find set into the top of an old box or chest but we've added a ring to it and it'll display wonderfully alongside other portrait miniatures or paintings. It's even the perfect size to display in an opulently appointed doll house! A treasure, don't miss it!
Very good condition. As noted, the hang ring was added by us. No real damage to the frame or painting, just as you see it in all of its glory. See pictures for measurements.
