Well, this has my maiden name monogram "S P" and it is SO tempting to keep it and wear it as a pendant on chain, but since I don't smoke and since I bought it for someone else but here it still sits in my collection of bits and pieces - time to list it and let someone else enjoy it. The little match vesta is English sterling, the marks a bit rubbed for time and in fact I haven't even taken the trouble to look them up. The case speaks for itself - a fabulous engraved crest with knight on one side and that elegant monogram on the other. A striker panel built into it along the bottom and a silver loop-ring to attach it to a chatelaine, which is likely how it original was presented. Or perhaps on a pocket watch chain instead? I should have taken a wheel polish to this one, now that I look at the greatly enlarged photos. Perhaps we'll go ahead and do so, but it truly shows beautifully in person One of the most lovely old ones we've seen or owned.
Very good condition for age and type. Silver marks are on inner lip and are somewhat worn away so difficult to capture clearly. English silver, sterling, so beautifully engraved on both sides - the knight's crest certainly makes it of high desirability. Measurements noted on the photos. I see nothing functionally wrong with it, hinge and clasp working well. Slightly spring-loaded cap, as you can see. Striker panel recessed at the base (tough to clean, sorry). Such a fabulous little treasure - for man or woman!
